Description
One-to-one Mentoring Support – help people to make a new start with a new job

New Deal mentoring gives unemployed people the chance to take advantage of one-to-one advice to help them find a new job. We understand that everyone’s situation is unique, so we’re offering people the support of their very own mentor.

Could you be that mentor?

Who is the programme for?
Our clients are people who have been unemployed for a significant period of time; they may have barriers preventing them from finding employment and we work with them to help them gain confidence and learn new skills.

How does it work?
You’ll work with a small number of unemployed people on a voluntary basis, helping them to return to work. We’d like to offer them the benefit of your expertise and experience on a weekly basis to help them focus on what they need to do to find employment.

What qualities are we looking for?
We're looking for anyone who is enthusiastic, patient, has a positive attitude and is passionate about helping people improve their lives. You must speak excellent English and any other languages you speak could be useful but not essential. It would also be desirable if you had job search skills and an awareness and understanding of the reasons for social exclusion.

What are the hours?
All mentoring sessions take place between the hours of 9 and 5.30 at the most convenient Action 4 Employment office, Jobcentre Plus or other affiliated learning provider. The hours can be extremely flexible. When you meet up is decided week by week between you and your mentee, making this an ideal volunteer position to fit around your other commitments.

What training and support is available?
The first step is to attend a one-day mentoring induction session which will provide you with a sound knowledge of the basic principles and approaches to mentoring. Once you get started, you will be receive ongoing support from your volunteer coordinator. You will have regular 1:1 meetings and you can telephone them for support and guidance when you need it.

You will also be provided with ongoing opportunities to participate in free training to help you further develop your skills and aid your professional development (such as CV writing, assertiveness skills). You will also have the opportunity to gain a City and Guilds accreditation from Business in the Community to recognise your contribution.

Finding employment makes a massive difference to people’s lives, helping them to find new confidence and direction. It’s your chance to improve someone’s life!

If you are interested in this opportunity please either:

Send us an email with your CV, a contact number and the area/s of London you'd like to mentor in (to a4ementoring@a4e.co.uk),

or telephone Catherine on 07789 720117.

We look forward to hearing from you!
