A French native, I started teaching while studying Spanish in Latin America. For 27 years I taught French and Spanish in a variety of settings. After years of fast pace and high pressure in some of London’s toughest schools, I have reached a stage where I wish to enjoy a more flexible professional life where I can use my languages and skills in a different environment.
I have first hand experience of how students feel pressured to conform to patterns of behaviour, and developed an interest into issues such as gender, race, ethnicity and class and their influence on life choices and outcomes. By exposing students to different languages, cultures and societies, I give them a chance to develop important life skills.
I have found ways of motivating and engaging the most reluctant learners, from the youngest to the oldest. I like to use a range of resources to promote good learning, I use up-to-date, imaginative resources, including ICT, online and audio-visual learning. I usually tackle grammatical points in context, without ignoring the need to formalise grammar acquisition and drills when appropriate.
With all learners, I like to teach through activities in the 4 skills, to promote rigorous spiral progression through enjoyment, while allowing a creative and spontaneous use of language.
In my lessons, I include the cultural content of the countries where the language is spoken, from a world perspective, and not from a Eurocentric point of view.
