It features a 5-disc progressive scan DVD player/changer with an integrated receiver that provides 1,000 watts of total system power output, and a six-speaker, 5.1 surround sound system--one subwoofer with 6.25-inch driver, one center channel, two front floor-standing satellites (which measure 43.5 inches tall), and two rear satellites. It also offers Dolby Digital, DTS, and Pro Logic II processing for surround sound from DVD, VHS, and stereo sources.
The 5-disc DVD player/changer is compatible with a wide range of disc formats, including standard music CDs, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW, as well as MP3 audio files and JPEG image files. Other features include a 12-bit, 108 MHz DAC (digital to analog converter) and three play modes (shuffle, program, repeat). Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive detects image changes at the pixel level versus other types that detect image changes at the scan line level. Separate algorithms are used to process the moving and still parts of an image to achieve sharper backgrounds and moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.
