Why should I bother with time or money on a new CV?
There are many answers to this. Let us start with a brief overview of how the job application process works.
Application Process
Each time you submit your CV to an employer, it will be carefully scrutinised against tens, if not hundreds, of other applicants. Any flaw, inconsistency or slight imperfection on the CV will be grounds for exclusion. After all, the employer has to narrow the field of applicants to a more manageable number.
Imagine yourself as the employer - 200 CVs from 200 qualified applicants. In these days 400-500 applicants is not out of the ordinary. Now what? Obviously the employer does not have the time or resources to call in 200 people for an interview. A CV is a textual representation of the applicant. That's why you shorten the applicant list by closely examining each CV. This begs the question? Is your CV as good or better than the other 199? Unfortunately, this is why many highly qualified individuals find themselves unemployed, underemployed, or in a dead-end job with no opportunities or prospects for advancement.
