Description
The long-term care management of the elderly involves various degrees of intervention in the stages from full independence to the different stages of dependency and care to full dependency and care.
It usually begins from age of retirement at age 65 to 75 with an unpaid care at home with family and friends taking care. At this stage, long-term care is manageable and is not critical unless the elderly suffers from an illness that may or may not be related to ageing.
At this stage, it is recommended to plan for the long-term care management to prepare the elderly, family members and friends for the next critical stage, when dementia begins.
Counseling is also recommended as part of the plan.
