The Vacancy
The Tax Technical and Training Department of BDO Stoy Hayward LLP seeks to recruit for a period of one year starting on 1 November 2005, a tax adviser to cover maternity leave. The Department
The Department is located at BDO Stoy Hayward’s offices at 8 Baker Street, London. It is led by a director who reports to two partners, the one responsible for training policy and the other for the operational aspects of the department. The director is responsible for training curriculum design, development and delivery and for the day-to-day running of the department.
The successful candidate will work with four other tax practitioners in the department and with other practitioners seconded from time to time to assist in the completion of project work. The members of the department report through the director to the partners.
The department is supported by a secretary.
The Job
The work of the department falls into three broad areas:
(a) tax training and education
(b) knowledge management
(c) research and advice
The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the training and education function. The department is responsible for the design, development and implementation of the tax training curriculum in BDO Stoy Hayward LLP at all levels from trainee to partner. The curriculum has recently been reviewed and re-designed and the successful candidate will contribute mainly to the implementation and on-going review of the new curriculum in so far as it relates to junior advisers.
The job entails a range of teaching activities that support learning, including:
planning, writing and maintaining high quality learning material
planning and delivering lessons using a range of teaching methods
setting and marking student assignments
providing effective feedback to students and their training managers
developing effective learning environments and student support systems
undertaking course management responsibilities such as initiating the sending of joining instructions, managing materials and resources, supervising work, and keeping student records for report purposes
reviewing the content and delivery of courses and the overall curriculum
marketing the department and the firm both internally and externally by contributing to various professional journals, or by undertaking teaching commitments on external training courses, or by being involved with the work of relevant professional bodies
other related activities as required from time to time
