Description
Morning Star. Morning Star is a 31.32m Luxemotor Dutch barge built in 1923. She was built in Holland and was formally a cement tanker. She has only a 4.9 m beam which makes her ideal for cruising the French canals. She had a new engine installed for her voyage from Holland to the UK and is believed to have only 120 hours recorded. She was last surveyed in 2001 and all recommendations to the hull were carried out by the previous owner. She has over the last 3 years under gone a major conversion by a marine company in Newhaven. We have kept a photographic record of the conversion. She maintains the original aft cabin with custom built timber sideboards and cupboards with bevel edged glasswork. A small galley with original stone sink compliments the period feel. A modern WC and shower are installed in a separate compartment. The wheelhouse has been rebuilt and enlarged. Hardwood timber has been used and incorporates a port and starboard door and 2 opening windows. This makes an attractive spacious dining area. The helm has been removed but can easily be refitted for moving the vessel. Stairs lead down into the new accommodation. A purpose built stainless steel handrail guards the stairs into the galley. The galley has an electric oven with integral grill. A gas range cooker is at the centre of the kitchen with a dishwasher to the side. Ample storage makes the galley an impressive open airy space. The galley has quality laminate flooring and an extractor fan over the range cooker. A breakfast bar separates the galley from the main saloon. The saloon is a spacious and airy room. Portholes allow light to enter the room, as do the opening roof hatches. The focal point of the room is a large wood-burning stove set on a purpose fabricated steel hearth made from original steel deck plates from the plant room. Surround sound cabling is run in the walls to give a superb audiovisual experience. Digital television cabling is installed. A door off the saloon leads to a long corridor and the rest of the accommodation. The starboard side of the corridor is exposed to show the inside of the hull. The plate work and rivets give an interesting talking point. A door to the left leads to the main bathroom. A full size bath sits opposite the toilet, with washbasin and full size shower cubicle. The bathroom has a varnished wooden ceiling and an electric extractor fan. Back in the corridor, the utility area sits to the side. A washing machine and tumble dryer is set under a work surface together with 3 large under worktop cupboards. Again, quality laminate flooring has been used. The next room is a large bedroom.3 port holes allow light to enter. This room has a varnished timber ceiling. There are ample 13amp power sockets. The next room, our nursery, has a nautical theme. The room has 2 portholes 1 of which is opening to allow fresh air. Outside the nursery door is another opening porthole and emergency hatch in the ceiling. A door at the end of the corridor leads to the uncompleted section. This final area is large enough to make a master cabin with a separate en-suite. The inside of the barge has been thoroughly degreased and painted and completely insulated. The outside of the barge has been thoroughly primed and painted during the steel alterations. A defined seating area has been incorporated at the forward end of the vessel to give an area large enough to seat at least 10 people. The exterior is currently being painted with Blakes marine paint. For further photos and to arrange viewing, please email. Morning Star is currently moored in Newhaven on a tidal riverbank mooring with shore power, telephone and mains water. The mooring is available by separate negotiation with the boat yard. A river bank garden is included with the mooring along with a reserved car park space. Newhaven is on a main line railway with direct links to Brighton and London. The station is a 2-3 minute walk.
