Overall purpose of job:
This is a key role in the technical deployment of complex
hosting/connectivity related solutions.
To implement, test and handover bespoke and standard
customer solutions within agreed timescales and to the specifications required, in a customer focused fashion.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
To liaise with other departments to ensure that the delivered
solution fulfills the customer's requirements.
To document the configuration of services and hardware/software
solutions according to the service descriptions including entry of key data into operational support systems to reflect current
status and progress of all solutions.
Devise sufficient testing processes for customer installations
to ensure services delivered match or exceed customer expectations.
Provide adequate handover support to operations, providing
training where required.
Regular communication with customers on their tickets and
the status of the services provided by the company.
Provide documented input to Product Management team on
technical feasibility of new products at concept, design and implementation phases.
Provide 2nd line post handover issues/fault diagnostics,
particularly with regards to Windows. Work with selected
3rd parties on support and process development.
Pre-sales support.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
MS Windows 2000/2003 AD Expertise.
Experience in deployment of MS Cluster technologies
and Linux Cluster Technologies.
MS Network Load Balancing.
Configuration of Cisco routers for Leased Line, ISDN,
xDSL and MPLS installations.
Deployment of popular mail systems (Microsoft
Exchange/Qmail/Postfix and Sendmail).
Expertise in installing and configuring mainstream
Linux distributions (Redhat, Suse, FreeBSD).
Network and hardware load balancing specifically
Foundry (SLB and GSLB).
Deployment and support of the following hardware
platforms: HP/Compaq, Cisco, Foundry, Netscreen.
Understanding of how VLANS, and Switching are used
in hosted solutions.
Understanding of the following networking concepts:
VPN, DNS, TCP/IP, NAT, MPLS.
Customer facing skills ( i.e ability to calmly handle
customers who are very non-technical).
CCNA, MSCE would be beneficial.
