Overall purpose of job:
To be responsible for the building and maintaining
Unix core systems and services.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
To develop new business solutions.
To analyze complex infrastructures, processes and procedures.
To propose new and innovative solutions to improve customer
satisfaction, reduce support cost and decrease systems administration complexity.
Reduce the number of parallel platforms within the infrastructure.
To maintain and support existing internal Claranet servers.
To innovate and develop new systems and customer services.
To ensure the effective 24/7 running of all systems and services.
To coordinate key projects and take responsibility for the growth
and development of services.
Education, qualifications and special training:
Strong FreeBSD skills with experience of Linux and Solaris
systems as well as some Windows experience.
At least two years experience of UNIX in an Internet environment.
The ability to build, run and scale many ISP services from source.
Software development experience in Perl and/or C.
Educated to Degree or equivalent in technical arena such as
computer science or software engineering.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
Will have at least 4 years systems administration experience
primarily in an internet environment.
Will have strong logical mindset capable of clear diagnosis
and fault resolution.
Will be a hands on systems administrator capable of rapidly
grasping new services and features.
